Improved Animal Management

Training in the care and appropriate use of animals and helping to develop community organizations that support those values are fundamental parts of Heifer's work. To this end, Improved Animal Management is one of Heifer's 12 Cornerstones for Just and Sustainable Development.

Heifer supports environmentally sustainable animal management practices that produce safe, humane conditions for animals provided. These animals are the core of our project families' livelihoods. They want to raise them in the best manner possible and often develop close bonds with them. In every project, Heifer uses a holistic approach-addressing water, gender equality, renewing the environment, etc.-to help families lift themselves up from poverty and hunger to a better life.
