Heifer's Stance on GMOs

Heifer International does not take an official position for or against genetically modified organisms (GMOs). In its programs, Heifer has limited involvement in seed distribution and, rather, works with families to secure native seeds and to improve yields from those seeds using agroecological farming practices and technologies appropriate to the local context. In most cases where Heifer International distributes seeds, they are for forage or horticulture. Most of these are locally procured and tend not to be GMOs. Heifer International complies with local laws, and where GMOs are restricted, all seeds are GMO-free.
