Living Gift Markets "sell" animals like bees, chicks, goats and heifers. The markets enable shoppers to honor a friend or loved one by giving in his or her name, while at the same time empowering an impoverished family by providing an animal and training. Through a Living Gift Market, your faith community will have a sense of working together to achieve more than they could individually, fulfilling your faith community's greater mission. A leader's guide is available providing steps to plan and host this event: Living Gift Market Guide.
Fill the Ark is a four-week, daily devotional program that offers real-life solutions to world hunger and shows that one person, one family, one congregation can make a difference in today's world. This is a great resource for Advent or Lent. Give your faith community's families the chance to take a break from their busy lives at home to talk about their world family.
When you choose to use the Fill the Ark program, you can order a kit for each participating family in your faith community. They will receive one four-week calendar. Daily lessons are done at home throughout the week, and contributions are collected each week. As families fill their arks with coins, they will meet the animals in Heifer's Ark and learn how these animals help families.
Animal Crackers is an interpretive religious teaching program about a few of the animals Heifer International project recipients request. Faith communities and religious schools use the program to better understand the inter-relatedness of animals, plants, and people as God's good creation and our role in sustaining them. Animal cards show and describe the role of a Heifer animal or tree.
A Kid Can Change the World features four weeks of colorful, age-appropriate resources to help you Pass on the Gift of generosity and compassion to the children in your faith family. Teachers, parents and grandparents can download these free resources to teach the children in their lives about the importance of generous giving while exploring how Heifer helps end hunger and poverty. The packs come in two levels — elementary (ages 4–10) and secondary (age 11+) — with similar, age-appropriate activities and content for the whole family to learn together!
Bar and Bat Mitzvah Project Ideas- Jewish congregations
Becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a significant time in a child's life. That's why Heifer International offers ideas and resources to help your synagogue's youth create a unique Mitzvah project and add meaning to his or her celebration. At the heart of Heifer's work is the notion similar to the Jewish concept of Tzedakah: that it is our duty to help those in genuine need.
