Environmental Response - Animals and the Environment

The gift of an animal- and the training that goes with it- makes it possible for a family to stop using destructive farming methods and start using soil and water conserving methods. These animals enhance multiple parts of the ecosystem and contribute significant worth to the farms. Adding a few key improvements to the ecosystem affects it entirely and supports environmental sustainability. A few of those improvements are outlined below.

"     Animals, like water buffalo, help farmers build terraces to fight against erosion
"     Manure from animals is used as compost and fertilizer to improve crop production
"     Using animal manure means using less chemical fertilizer
"     Manure is also used in biogas stoves, which reduces forest degradation by lowering the need for firewood
"     We help the families plant fodder and forage crops to feed the animals and maintain greenery
