At Heifer, animals provide help to project participants in many ways. We summarize the main benefits as the Seven "M"s:
- Muscle Power
Animals can benefit families in ways other than a direct source of protein. These animals are integral players in diversified farms, which grow and produce other sources of foods. For example, manure enriches the soil; muscle or draft power enables families to market excess vegetables, milk or other produce; additional income pays for school, clothes and food.
Smaller animals, however, do provide increased protein for impoverished families. Through careful management and record keeping, these project families are increasing their income through the sale of offspring, eggs, furs, hair, etc., from these animals.
